Luis Zubia Jr., 57, beloved son, father and brother, passed away on Friday, March 17th, 2023. Luis was a proud 1984 graduate of Coronado High School where he was named the 1984 El Paso Times Player of the Year and was one of 5 Coronado players named to The El Paso Times All-City First Team. His love of baseball was unwavering. Luis attended New Mexico Highlands University, after college he returned to El Paso and began his career with the El Paso Fire Department, proudly serving his community for 26 years. After his retirement in 2018, Luis became a member of the El Paso Chihuahua's game day security staff.
Luis is survived by his children Jaylan and Dallan Zubia, his parents Luis and Martha Zubia, his brother Orlando Zubia, his sisters Marti Zubia, Rachel Zubia Collins and Rebecca Zubia, his sister-in-law Marilyn Zubia, brother-in-law Jimmy Collins, numerous nieces and nephews and his extended El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Chihuahuas, and Locomotives families.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 5 PM to 9 PM at Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Avenue with Rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1 PM at Saint Patrick Cathedral, 1118 North Mesa Street. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park 8700 Dyer St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his honor to the Local Firefighter Association.
