Lucy G. Silverthorne was born December 12th, 1923 in New York City and grew up in Tarry Town, NY. She passed away April 24th, 2019 at her home in El Paso. She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Giampiccolo, and her mother, Frances La Carrubba, who both immigrated to New York from Ragusa, Italy in the early 1900’s. They were wed in 1920 and remained married for 50 years. Lucy was also preceded in death by her three siblings; John Giampiccolo, Theresa Di Michele and Louis Giampiccolo.
Lucy began her career with the Department of State in 1955. She started her career as Secretary to the Ambassador and worked her way up to Consular Officer. During her career she was stationed in Washington D.C., Miami, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Italy, Mexico and Nicaragua.
While stationed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras she met her husband, Joseph M. Silverthorne, whom she later wed on April 22nd, 1965 in Mexico City. He preceded her in death in 1995. They were married 30 years and had two sons, Joseph D. Silverthorne and Pancho Silverthorne (Rose). She is survived by her two sons and three grandchildren; Lauren Terry (Curtis), Camille Silverthorne and Joseph M. Silverthorne.
Lucy traveled and had an amazing career before she retired to El Paso, Texas with her husband to raise her sons. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and she helped to raise her three grandchildren, whom she adored. Lucy touched everyone who knew her and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am-12:00 pm Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Evergreen East Funeral Home with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:00 pm. A Reception will follow at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Evergreen East Funeral Home.
