Lorraine Portillo passed away on January 26, 2023 as a result of a long, well lived life. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, and Grandma. She was a Girl Scout leader for Troop 51, drove the YMCA daycare “yellow” bus and was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Athletic Association for many years. Lorraine worked for the EPISD until her retirement in 1999. Lorraine was known for her abundant faith in God, her kindness, compassion, and hospitality. She made it her mission to learn names and details about family and friends. Lorraine offered a cup of coffee, a meal, and a willing ear to anyone she met.
Her house, the “Kool-Aid house” was open and welcoming to all. She had a great sense of humor and an even better sense of sarcasm. When asked for advice by countless friends and family, her response was always the same: “Have faith in God and remember to have the big “C”. Lorraine’s true passion was family. Each one of her children and grandchildren were her favorite and each one was treated as if they were her only one. She was a devoted daughter and sister. She willing cared for several family members during their final days; her voice often the last one they heard.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Concha Campbell, the love of her life, her husband Homero and her son- in- law James McMillen, She leaves behind her sister Gloria Heath (Ron) and brother Carlos Campbell (Denise), eight children Cynthia Timmerman (Keith), Patricia Gunnells, Susan Schrock (Levy), Barbara McMillen, Homer Portillo (Debbie), Catherine Portillo, Michael Portillo (Ana) and Mark Portillo. She was incredibly proud of her eight grandsons, four granddaughters and two great granddaughters. She had many nieces and nephews who she loved immensely.
A visitation for Lorraine will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Martin
Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, TX 79936. Funeral mass will be held Thursday,
February 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at Christ the Savior Church, 5301 Wadsworth Ave, El Paso, Tx 79924 with
interment at 12:30 pm at Restlawn Cemetery, 4848 Alps Drive, 79904.
