Lorenzo S. Magaña, 91, a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died at home Thursday, November 13, 2014 after a long illness. Lorenzo was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, having served with the 243rd Engineers Combat Battalion, 1107th Engineer Combat Group, VIII Corps, 3rd Army. His battalion took part in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. After World War II, Magaña worked as a mechanical engineer at the Rainbo Bread Company in El Paso and retired after 32 years. He is preceded in death by his son: Lorenzo Magaña II and grandsons: Adam Payne and Gabriel Magaña. Lorenzo is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucy Magaña; sons: Rafael Magaña and wife Cecilia of Fort Wayne, Ind., Victor Magaña of El Paso; daughter: Martha Payne and husband Gary of San Antonio; and daughter-in-law Sharon Magaña of Las Vegas; grandchildren: Rafael Magaña Jr., Luis Magaña, Patrick Magaña, Gary Payne Jr., Nicholas Payne, Abraham Payne, Therese Payne, Veronica Castillo, Lorenzo Magaña III, Jonathan Magaña and David Magaña; and 34 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
