

He grew up in Juarez, Mexico, attended Lydia Patterson Institute, and worked at Fort Bliss Texas before being drafted for and serving in the Korean War. After returning from combat in Korea he married Elizabeth Oaxaca with whom he moved to El Paso, Texas where they lived and raised their family. He worked and retired from Ft. Bliss Post Exchange.
Polo’s greatest passions were his wife and family, serving God and music. For Polo, his love for singing and praising his Lord led him to sing in church choirs, direct church Choirs and eventually earned an Associate of Arts in Music after which he came to led the El Paso Community College Senior Choir.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Oaxaca Mendoza, parents Juan Mendoza and Rosaura Maldonado Mendoza, siblings Lydia Nabhan, Ina Elizabeth Gonzalez, Leonor Emma Dominguez, Benjamin U. Mendoza, and Adelina Almanza.
He is survived by his children: daughters Evelyn Gallegos and husband Gilberto A. Gallegos, Linda A. Ruiz and husband Jesus Armando Ruiz, Ana E. Guerreo and husband Alberto Guerrero, Carolina Mireles and husband Alfredo Mireles, and son Leopoldo E. Mendoza, Jr. and wife Olpa Mendoza; beloved grandchildren: Josue J. Gallegos and wife Jessica D. Gallegos, Isaac E. Gallegos and wife Adriana Gallegos, Rebecca N. Holmes and husband Robbyn Holmes, Vianey Sanchez and husband Christopher Sanchez, Lauren Rosanvallon and husband Remi Rosanvallon, Armando Ruiz, and Jakob, Caleb and Leah Mendoza: great grandchildren: Ezra, Lucas and Benjamin Gallegos, Santiago and Sebastian Sanchez, and Luna, Orion, Titan and Nova Holmes; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Scotsdale Baptist Church, 10015 Lockerbie Ave., January 30, 2025 at 6 p.m., viewing at 5:00p.m. Funeral Service on January 31, 2025, 8:30 a.m., Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr.. Burial at 10:00 a.m., Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Road, El Paso, Texas.
