Vin was born in Las Cruces, NM and lived in the southwest for nearly all her life. She graduated from El Paso High School and went on to study music at the University of New Mexico. There she obtained her degree in Music Education and also met her husband James (Jim) Richards. They briefly lived in Boston, MA before returning to settle in El Paso. Early on in her time in El Paso, she played clarinet in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra along with Jim. Vin is survived by her two sons, Bryan and Matthew, daughter in law, Tamara, along with her three grandchildren, Jeremy, Grayson and Alexandria.
Throughout the years Vin was a prominent music educator in the city of El Paso and the state of Texas. She was a director in Clint school district in her early days of teaching and then moved to teaching private lessons for clarinet and piano for nearly 50 years. She was an active member of El Paso Music Teachers Association as well as Texas Music Teachers Association, including serving as President of the former for many years. She touched many lives of all ages with her teaching and passion for music. She and Jim were regular attendees for symphony concerts, pro musica events, and regional opera performances.
We will have a celebration of life on Saturday, March 25th at 2PM followed by a brief reception. This will take place at Western Hills Methodist Church at 524 Thunderbird Dr, El Paso, TX 79912.
