KATHERINE WATTS-McENROE (Nee Thee) born in Alpine, Texas on October 17, 1932; the fourth child of Nicholas M. Thee and Katherine Weyer. She joined the Lord at 5:13 P.M. on August 11, 2017. Katherine is survived by her husband Robert F. McEnroe, son Richard F. Watts Jr, sister Judy T. Stasky, granddaughters: Christine Herndon, Jamie Bryan (Roy), Kimberly Daughtry (Chris), Tiffany Kay Watts, Ashley Thee Watts and Megan Lea Watts; grandsons: Charles Watts (Bethany), Joseph P Watts and nine great-greats. She was proceeded in the death of her parents, husband CWO-4 Richard F. Watts, daughter Robin E, sons Nicholas, Ronald and Randall, sister Louise, brothers Nicholas, William, Joseph and Jack
Katherine as a young child knew that she wanted to be nurse, and after graduating from Alpine HS in 1950 ventured to El Paso and entered the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing operated by the Sisters of Charity; a religious order of nuns. In 1953 she achieved her goal and was capped, passed her Texas State Boards and became a Registered Nurse. Katherine specialized in the operating room and was a life member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. In 1990 Katherine was voted Nurse of the Year, she participated in some of the earliest open heart procedures. Her nursing career covered a total of 44 years, until her retirement in 1997.
Katherine was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, was president of Unit 36 for 24 years and worked tirelessly in support of The Texas Bluebonnet Girls State and poppy sales to benefit disabled veteran activities. Visitation will be Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 5 to 9pm with vigil at 7pm at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 21, 2017 at 12:15pm at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
