Julian Barragan Jr., 81, of El Paso, TX, peacefully passed away on October 20, 2022 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was surrounded by the love of his immediate family in the last days of his life.
Born in East Chicago, Indiana to Maria and Julian Barragan, he was the first of 4 children. Julian was fiercely passionate about education from the start and dedicated his life to both his pursuit of higher learning and his family. Having various interests and abilities Julian resolved to serve in the United States Navy, where he became a medic and expanded his skills in medicine and boxing. Although his interests always revolved around anything medical, he landed his job as an Engineering Estimator at the El Paso Electric Company and established the reputation of a hard worker and innovative team leader for almost 29 years.
Julian met his wife, Socorro, in El Paso and together they raised 3 children. Julian put family first, always, and was a dedicated father putting his collegiate pursuits on hold as he provided for his family. His children, reared with his tenacity for education, went on to pursue careers in engineering, finance and critical care nursing. Julian was strong but loving, strict but fair, and ultimately a supportive father and kind husband. His knowledge and guidance was, and remains, the foundation of his family. Julian was also an exercise enthusiast. He boxed in the Navy, worked out after work in the company weight room, practiced and taught Tai Chi in the community and near the end, when the challenges that Parkinson's disease presented him became too great for his body, he used hand held weights for his daily exercise.
Julian was predeceased by his sister, Graciella and his brother, Ricardo. He leaves behind his wife Socorro; his children Sergio, Monica, Melissa and their families; his brother Leonard and several loving nieces and nephews.
Thanks to all who cared for him, including all the angels at Golden Park. He will always remain in our hearts the strong man with high standards, full of wisdom and wit. Toodle-oo dad.
