Juan Perales, 78, was born in Durango, Mexico on April 17, 1945 and passed away on April 26, 2023 in El Paso, Texas.
Juan moved to Juarez, Chihuahua at a young age and then to El Paso, TX after marrying his life partner. He worked in maintenance in various schools throughout El Paso and built a life for his wife and three daughters. He belonged to the lay group of the Order of the Servants of Mary and the Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Juan was an avid reader and enjoyed engaging in conversations prompted by the latest book he had read. Nothing was off limits: current events, philosophy, history, social injustice, religion, politics, etc. He also got much joy from playing cards and, for several years, belonged to a card club with neighbors and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with family and watching his grandchildren grow, enjoy life, and develop their talents. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed bringing out the same in others. He was unassuming and generous; frequently donating food, funds, and clothing to those often overlooked. The charity most dear to him was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and donated regularly to support their efforts in fighting childhood cancers.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents, Sabas Perales and Epifania Ruiz, brother Manuel Perales, and daughter Blanca E. Perales. He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Juana A. Perales, daughters Patricia Perales (Timothy N. Hudson) and Edith J. Perales (Oscar Rojero), granddaughters Maya Perales-Hudson, Anelle Perales-Hudson, and Aria O. Perales-Rojero, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will forever be grateful to those who provided care, support, and comfort to Juan and his family. Thank you to all friends and family that prayed for and checked in on the whole family. Thank you to his friend and neighbor, Ms. Irene who always looked out for him. Thank you to the Eucharistic ministers who visited him. Particularly, thank you to his oncologist, Dr. Joshua Rodriguez and his compassionate staff at TX Oncology who granted him a dignified fight and afforded the family some more time to share with him and create more memories. Also, much gratitude to Veronica Holt who provided nursing care at his home. He enjoyed those visits and conversations very much.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
A visitation for Juan will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915, followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM.
