Juan Montano was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo on March 30, 1914. He married Bertha (Nena) in 1928. He arrived in Cd. Juarez Mexico playing guitar in a band alongside his brother Vicente; they both left the band to help run a famous downtown bar in Juarez called El Submarino. Wanting more for himself and his wife with the help of the Robert Family, he immigrated to the United Stated in 1955. He began working for the Roberts, and then opened his own small second hand store in downtown South El Paso. Both Nena and Juan ran the business buying and repairing used refrigerators, stoves, washing machines and sold appliance parts. They moved from the small rented space to 800 South Stanton and established “Montano’s Furniture” which operated for 55 years until he retired at the age of 95.Both Juan and Nena became U.S. Citizens in the summer of 1996. Juan, who was a member of the Lions Club in Juarez, loved to watch boxing and baseball. He was preceded in death by his wife Nena in October of this year. He is survived by children, Virginia, Hector, Sylvia; grandchildren, John Michael and wife Josie Goeldner, Frank Phillip Montano, and Heather Montano; great grandchild Liam Montano and his sister Zenida (98) who still lives in Pachuca. Visitation: 5- 9p.m. Friday, December 4rd, 7 p.m. Vigil at Martin Central. Funeral Mass: 8:15a.m., Saturday, December 5th at St. Joseph. Interment: Evergreen East Cemetery.
