Juan Franco Carbajal II entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be his with Lord Jesus on Labor Day 2023 peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, sons, daughters, and family members. He passed at the age of 94 years old, three weeks shy of his 95th birthday on September 27th.
Juan was born in 1928 in El Paso, Texas. Relatives and friends better knew him as “Chito” instead of Juan or John. Dad was the proud father of seven children; Juan III, Gloria, Belinda, David, Gilbert, Ann, and Albert. He was very stringent and a disciplinarian in his teaching of life morals and scruples. This was his greatest accomplishment, to raise all of us correctly.
Juan and his family moved to San Diego and Los Angeles in 1949 to work. Dad was in his early twenties when he decided to move. He bought a used but in good condition 1948 Hudson. He drove that car into San Diego to report to his first job. He mastered his trade in painting as a painter and was hired at the San Diego Naval Base painting Navy ships that were docked. Personnel contractors hired him to paint B-36’s stationed in San Diego.
Dad eventually moved to Los Angeles where he had job sites in Central L.A., Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Hollywood to name a few. On weekends he drove the family to Santa Monica Beach and Long Beach to picnic and frolic on the beach sands. He decided to purchase a new 1955 Chevy car in order to travel all over Los Angeles. Family entertainment also included Dodger games, Ram games, and Disneyland.
John’s passion in life was watching Dallas Cowboys on TV, hearing rock and roll music and sometimes singing. He was also an avid baseball player playing pick-up games during the weekends in Santa Ana. In the summer of 1959, the entire family moved back to El Paso and thereafter lived in El Paso for the rest of his life. Family and friends will always remember him as begin cheerful and congenial to all he met. His life’s values left behind are beautiful memories never to be forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dolores and Juan Carbajal Sr., his wife Delia N. Carbajal. Left to cherish his memory are his 7 children and their spouses; Juan Carbajal III (Rosie), Gloria Grenzebach, Belinda Albertson (Matt), David Carbajal (Gloria), Gilbert Carbajal, Ann Chinn (Bo), and Albert Carbajal, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina. He will then be laid to rest on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt Rd.
We the family say a special “Thank You” to Esthela Gomez, Patsy Najera, Hospice El Paso and Accentcare for caring for our beloved father Juan Carbajal.
