Jose Salvador Valdez, died at his home in Keller, TX on March 21st, surrounded by family and his caretaker. Jose, fondly known as Joe, was born to J. Salvador Valdez and Concha Morfin, on April 5, 1930, in El Paso, Texas. Joe was a graduate of El Paso High School and later received his degree in civil engineering from Texas Western College. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, Joe started his career working for the Texas Highway Department. He later worked for the International Boundary Commission as principal engineer. He retired after 34 years of federal service. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband beloved as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His faith was key to how he lived his life. We give thanks to all who loved him and touched Joe’s long life. You were a part of his great story.
Joe is survived by his five children, Yvette Smith (Bill), Terry McKee (James), Janice Hardin Ferrito (Peter), Jeremy Valdez (Erin) and Kristal Linney (Tom); nine grandchildren, Will, James, Grant, Morgan, Davis, Dillon, Meredith, Austin and Liam; and five precious great-grand-babies. He is also survived by his brother, Gilberto Valdez, and nephews and nieces. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, J. Salvador and Concha Morfin, his sister Aurora Huffman and his wife Herminia.
Services will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N. Carolina Dr. El Paso, TX. on Tuesday, April 2nd with a viewing from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm (Rosary at 6:00 pm). Funeral Mass will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar El Paso, on Wednesday, April 3rd at 9:30 am. Burial to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, TX at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Diabetes Association in Joe’s name.
