JOSE “Pepe” SALAZAR, 97 yrs., peacefully passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013. He was born on September 4, 1916 to Jose and Maria Luisa Salazar in Mexico. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years Christina Goytia Salazar and his brothers Miguel, Fernando, Carlos and Oscar and his sisters, Margarita “Nena”, Soleda “Chole” and Ramona. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jose Salazar, Roberto Salazar, Gilberto Salazar and Cecilia Ruelas, along with his 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. They will all miss their grandpa Pepe. Pepe served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged after the war. He worked all his life in El Paso as a meat cutter at various businesses. But he is best remembered by his avid passion for the game of golf. He started playing the game in 1956 at his beloved Ascarate Golf Course. Rarely a week would go by that he didn’t play at least once. When age caught up with him and he was unable to play, he continued to go to the club to meet and make new friends. He will be sorely missed by the many friends he is leaving at Acarate Golf Club. The family would like to extend its heart felt gratitude to the many people who helped take care of Pepe before his passing. Special thanks to Rachel Penafiel and Delia Salazar who offered so much of their time. Thanks also to all the professional care takers, especially the staff of Santa Fe Home Care, Mariko Ward, MSN, NP-C and the other staff of Dr. Yusoof’s Medical Home Team. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Harding Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home. Services under the direction of HARDING ORR & MCDANIEL FUNERAL HOME. www.fdahardingorrfh.com
