Jose H. Damian, 85, was called to Heaven on September 9, 2018. He passed away unexpectedly, but had his loved ones there to say one last goodbye. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence will be missed. His strength, selflessness and endearment for all are only a few qualities this great man had. Memories of his big heart and love for his family will be treasured always. He will forever be remembered as “papa” to those who knew and loved him. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. He served on the Canutillo Independent School District school board as a member for 30 years. In honor of his service, Jose H. Damian Elementary was named in his honor in 1992. He was born on December 2, 1932 to Candelario and Rosa Damian. On June 29, 1958, he married the love of his life, Josefina. The two are now reunited in heaven. Their love is still our guide, and although we cannot see them, they are always at our side. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josefina; his parents Candelario and Rosa; brother Osvaldo and sister Rosaura. He is survived by his children, Ricardo, Jose (Barbara), Elizabeth (Eduardo), Josefina (Luis), Rosa and Eduardo; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 4:00pm-8:00pm with Vigil service at 6:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home West. Mass of Burial will be on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Canutillo. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley.
