From the moment he arrived to his passing on Sunday, July 18, 2021 he was burdened with an
insatiable hunger for life.
He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and brought to El Paso, Texas, where he joined one of the
last graduating classes at Jesuit High School. He excelled in mathematics, science, baseball,
football, track, and basketball. He received a full scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University
as a student athlete and later completed his degree in accounting at The University of Texas at
El Paso.
As a devoted father, José worked tirelessly to support and provide for the future of his family. As
a husband, he danced his way into love that burned with an intense level of ferocity. As the
eldest of six siblings, his brothers and sisters knew that they could count on him for anything, at
any time. As a friend to many, he often found absurd and amusing ways to entertain. As an
accountant and CFO, he helped a number of local businesses grow into thriving enterprises.
He was extremely competitive, and did not know how to do anything half-way. He was
consistently harsh in the manner in which he evaluated people. He voiced his opinion as to how
those around him could improve and become the best versions of themselves. He also showed,
over the course of several decades, that he cared more about the well being of his family and
friends than that of his own.
José is survived by his father, Jesús Arturo Briones and by his mother, Dolores Briones. He is
survived by his wife, Hilda Briones, and their two children: Joshua Briones and Gabriela
Briones. As well as his first daughter, their half sibling, Claudia Briones. He
is survived by his five younger brothers and sisters: Silvia Oralia Muñiz, Ana Maria Hernandez,
Robert Arturo Briones, Jorge Luis Briones, and Ida Araceli Espinoza.
His personality, quirks, bad habits, humor and above all, presence will be missed.
