John Ronald Simon

Affectionately known as Daddy, Ron, Si and Mr. Simon passed away on Sunday January, 29, 2012 at the age of 70 with his daughter at his side. A resident of El Paso for 44 years. He was an only child and grew up in Auburn, New York, graduated from East Auburn High in 1959, a graduate from Western New Mexico earning his bachelor’s degree in 1966 and from UTEP with a Masters in 1974. He used his knowledge to teach at El Paso High School for 30 years and then at Jesus and Mary Catholic School. His excitement for teaching was endless and not limited to a class room. He was ham radio operator WB5VPT, had an affection for grand prix racing, enjoyed free time on the shooting range and never went on vacation where he didn’t run into a former student. He is preceded in death by both parents John Simon (1978), Mary Tyhanic Simon (2004), wives Donna “Pat” Simon (1978) and Barbara Simon (2010). He leaves behind a son and daughter. John Ronald Simon III and Rachel Simon Greaber, four grand children, Evan Broc Simon (4), Corbin Ray Simon (7), Stephanie Jean Greaber (11) and Donna Patricia Greaber (15). A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West. To quote Mr. Simon, “There will be a test on Tuesday”.
