Joan May Everett, 85, passed away on July 29, 2022. She was born on April 25, 1937, to Mike and Mary (Dzuris) Salmich in Leadville, Colorado. She married her husband, Larry Everett, on December 20, 1969.
Jo May was a long-time resident of Leadville, graduating from Leadville High School in 1955. She attended Colorado Mountain College and studied computer accounting and paralegal. She worked for Climax Molybdenum Company as a Contract Administrator for 31 years. She then worked at Copper Mountain Special Districts as an Administrative Assistant/Accountant and then at The Herald Democrat as Copy Editor. She retired in 1996.
In addition to Leadville, she and her husband, Larry, also lived in Twin Lakes, CO, and then moved to Santa Teresa, New Mexico in 2018 for warmer winters and to be near family.
A passion Jo May shared with her husband, Larry, was being longtime Denver Bronco fans. They enjoyed having season tickets for many years. They also enjoyed volunteering with Leadville Trail 100 and were honored for years of volunteer service to Lake County Search and Rescue where Jo May served as secretary/treasurer. Jo May loved her Czechoslovakian and Yugoslavian heritage and enjoyed sharing traditional foods, polka music and dance. Her grandparents (George and Anna Dzuris) moved to the farming and ranching community of Calhan to homestead around 1888, and this is where Jo May will be laid to rest.
Jo May is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Larry Everett of Santa Teresa, NM, step-daughter Shelley Everett-Liburdi and step-grandson Landon Liburdi of Parker, CO, nephew Rocco (Dimi) DeSantis of Kilgore, TX, nephew Peter (Ana) DeSantis of El Paso, TX, niece Maria (Greg) Savera of Keller, TX, and great nieces and nephews: Peter (Rosie) DeSantis, Ryan (Renae, Rocco and Rory) DeSantis, Aurora (Jacopo and Paolo) Ghirardi, Nicole DeSantis, Iliana DeSantis, Alena Savera and Anthony Savera.
