Your smile and your quiet ways will be missed by all who knew you. You were a class act. But I am sure you are in a better place now.

Aunt Jean was gracious and sophisticated, and I have many fond memories of her.  I can remember my Mom and Grandma going on about their and Jean's Famolare shoes.  They were cool and they knew it.

To the Family of Mrs. Nance,
It is such a sad day that she has passed. Your mother was such an influence in my education and career. That it took me to a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Architectural Design and Art History. It has taken me from El Paso to Las Cruces to Paris, France. Each time I think of school at El Paso High I think of your mother. Especially one of our projects we had in a Shakespear class our Junior year. We were to take a character from one of Shakespears plays and do a report on it or do a three diamentional project on it. I selected one of Henry the Eighths wives. I used one of my Madame Alexander dolls and made a period accurate costume for it. And included a report on the dress of that time. I got an A. But She instilled a love of Shakespear for the rest of my life. My praters are with you and your families.Fondly, Mary Etzold Benning

Jean Nance was my favorite teacher. I took four classes from her and she made each one very enjoyable. She showed she cared for me as a student and a person, which continued for many years after I graduated.  I visited her as recently as a couple of years ago.  I loved Jean Nance and am grateful that I was one of her students and for years later, a friend.

Dearest, dearest Mrs. Nance,

What a gift you are and were to all of us, thank you is not enough; the gratitude I feel to you and for you is large.  You instilled great confidence in me, impressed on me the notion that I had some ability to write, you are one of the firm foundations on which I have leaned--I adored and looked "so" forward to going to your class, I was eager for your assignments, eager to fulfill them, and hungry for your response, to see what you felt was strong, and what could be strengthened.  Thank you for fostering an atmosphere of love, generosity,  thank you for your guidance--and grace.  I always remembered your grace, your kindness, your sweet voice.  You know you have been a powerfully effective teacher--when your students do mourn your loss, in a very personal way.  My wish is that you rest in peace, and that you know, somehow, how greatly you have formed and influenced us.  God bless your soul and spirit.  And, once again, my gratitude to you is large, and my memory of you, firm and constant; your teaching--your class and assignments, were a foundation (as well as a safe place and haven) on which I based my career in writing and education.  I think of you and have thought of you often throughout these years--and now I hear your time here has passed, and your students, I am sure, all around the world now, carry some of you with them, with us, as we move through the world.  Gratitude for your grace and your guidance.  And condolences to your family.  The mark you have made on us is indelible.  May God rest your sweet soul.

You are also survived by all of the students you took to the next level. Everyone you touched loves you. You are truly a gift and a treasure!
