God’s Angels took James “Jim” Maynard Curl to Heaven at 3:16 pm on November 18, 2016 at age 62. He accepted Jesus Christ into his heart as his Lord & Savior November 16, 2016. Jim was born November 28, 1953 in Waycross, Georgia to Verda (McGarity) & James A. Curl. Graduated High school in Fernandina Beach, Florida in 1971, & volunteered to join the U.S. Army at 17 during the Vietnam War & was assigned to Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. He was an engineer for the Patriot Missile System & did 3 tours of duty in Germany, with the Patriot IM Training Detachment as operator/instructor/engineer & retired an E7 after 20 years of military service. As a civilian, Jim worked for CAS, ITT & Wylie, as a weapons system analyst (engineer) for the Patriot Missile System (PALS) often flying overseas to the Middle East & Europe. Jim was very athletic: a distance runner, golfer, softball pitcher, football (WR) in HS, played semi-pro baseball (pitcher) in the U.S. Army with the Patriots. He liked carpentry, shooting, doing car/truck repairs, yard work, fishing, camping, the Atlanta Braves & Falcons, & the Dallas Cowboys & listening to conservative Talk Radio & watching Fox News. He played the harmonica, guitar, loved shooting, loved classic rock, country music, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, loved animals especially cats & dogs. Jim met & married Helen Marie Reade in 1987; they had Jamie Marie Curl in 1989. Jim had 3 Sons: Brian, Chris, & Taylor & was Step-Dad to Helen’s Son: the late Jesse Wayne Reade & Step-Grandpa to Jesse’s son, Elijah Reade Toulmin of Dallas, TX. Jim loved his country, his wife, kids, his Mother-in-law Margarita E. Reade, Father-in-law the late Jesse George Reade, & his family in Texas. He also loved his family in Georgia, Mother: Verda Dyals, three maternal Sisters: Lisa Renee Mosely, Lori Murray, & the late Joyce Crews, Step-Dad the late Ernest Mosely, & numerous nieces & nephews. Jim is also survived by his Dad James A. Curl, & Step-Mom Juanita, & two siblings, J. Ronald Curl & Pamela Knight. Military Awards & Medals: Rifle M16 Expert Badge; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon of 3 tours of duty; Non-Com Officers Professional Development Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal of 1 Bronze Service Star, & Good Conduct Medal. We will miss Jim until the day we die and we will love Jim forever in Heaven. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors, ETA 1:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N.
