He is survived by his 5 children: Jaime H. Chacon, Jr; Maria Edna Martinez, Hector Chacon, Monica M. Chacon, and Ruben Chacon; his surviving brother and sister, Anastacio and Hylda A. Chacon, his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. “Jaimito” was born on December 30, 1938, to Anastacio Chacon and Carmen Ugarte. He was one of 15 children, though only 7 survived beyond childhood. He received a school house education up to only middle school. But with that, he went on to become project superintendent for JD Abrams, Co., where he supervised construction of several major highways and bridges in Texas and the Gulf Coast, many on which we drive every day in El Paso, Austin, Galveston and Mississippi. During his almost 6 decades with the company, he gained the respect and admiration of his workers, who worked tirelessly for him, knowing he would guide them safely through their projects. And he gained their love as well, as he treated them as family, cooking his carne asada and Chile Colorado for them during down time in between projects. His remaining brother and sister will recall the dances in Porvenir, the Benny Hill moments, the cafe at Titi’s with the sisters, and the quiet moments shared during tragedies that brought them closer together. His grandchildren will remember the truck rides listening to “Bugs Bunny” music, the sleepovers with “green syrup,” their fishing trips at the lake, his love of dancing and his playful spirit. And his children will remember his wisecracks, late night Hamburger Hut (Yuck! That’s what they thought!) camping trips to Ruidoso and Caballo Dam, wedding blessings and warm pats on shoulders. And they will always remember his advise to “Be happy,” “Respect each other,” and “Haga las cosas bonito aunque sean difíciles,” (a work in progress) We will always wish we had more of you, as your children, hermanos, amigos, grandkids. But we will forever be grateful for the time we had with you. If we could just have 5 more minutes, and then 5 minutes more, and then 5 more minutes more...
Love you Daddy, GrandDaddy, Hermano, Jaimito, Chacon
John 14: 1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
