In loving memory of Irvin F. Christman “Chris” who passed away September 30, 2010. Chris was born June 2, 1920 in Lewisville, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Anna and his three brothers. Chris proudly served his country during WWII as an Air Force Staff Seargent and was awarded the Bronze Star for his initiative and ingenuity displayed during establishment of the XX Bomber Command in India during 1944. Chris worked as an Area Sales Manager for the Heinz Company where he established the first advertising campaign on the back of local El Paso cabs. He retired from Heinz after 26 years in 1977.
Chris is survived by his wife Viola who shared 30 wonderful, retirement years traveling extensively with the Good Sams, golfing, fishing, gambling and enjoying the scenery. Chris boasted many Holes-in-One, most of them sunk at Cielo Vista Golf Course. They also enjoyed summers at their Ruidoso home with many friends escaping the El Paso heat. Chris’ favorite past-time was haggling for the best deal earning him the well fought title of “Bird Dog Christman” by those who dealt with him. He is also survived by: son Gary of Elma, WA and his daughters Lauren and Erienne; daughter Gayle Boren (Robert) of Renton, WA and their son Robbe; stepdaughter Ruth Colwell (Jim) of El Paso, their son Doug (Sandy) and daughter Susan (Allen); stepson Dr. James R. Shiveley (Annette) of Albuquerque, NM; and great-grandson Royce. His family deeply appreciates the special care given by the staff at Pebble Creek Nursing Facility.
Chris’ sense of purpose and optimism will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Chris left this poem for us to find, the ones he left behind.
When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re apart, For every time you think of me I am right here in your heart.
Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central, 3839 Montana Ave.
