Irma Margarita Alcala Soto, also known as Mima Grande, passed away on December 31, 2017 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by husband Roberto Soto, father Manuel Alcala, mother Margarita Jaquez de Alcala, sister Irene and brothers Rene and Manuel.
Irma was born in Juarez on July 20, 1924 and was a resident of El Paso since 1963. As a young widow, she saw to the care and education of her 5 children. She was a top sales clerk on the famous 5th floor and designer room of the Popular Dry Goods where she earned many awards.
She enjoyed the company of her friends, family and especially her grandchildren. She loved music and dancing and was active in community and social events with the Club Juvenil Deportivo and Boton Rojo.
In retirement, Irma participated in her faith community at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church as a communion minister and taking Eucharist to the homebound. She was a devoted instructor of Talleres de Oracion y Vida, driving to distant parishes to impart those teachings up to the age of 89.
She touched many lives and she will be missed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 4, 2018 at Martin Funeral Home West at 128 North Resler Drive from 5pm to 9pm with Rosary at 7pm. Catholic mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church, Friday January 5, 2018 at 10:00am. Cremation and interment will follow this service at San Lorenzo Parish in Cd. Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico.
