Irene L. Casarez

Irene L. Cásarez,93, passed away on December 8, 2020, due to complications of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. She is survived by her son Rueben (Nicole) and her daughter Rita (David), and by her brother Carlos (Elva). She has 6 grandchildren- Adrian (Kourtney), Julian (Erica) and Christian (Martha) Canales, and Alex (Jessica), Rebecca and Laura Cásarez. She has 1 great-granddaughter, Mia Canales. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Lucero and Margarita P. Lucero, 6 brothers and sisters, and her loving husband of 62 years, Ramon Cásarez.

Irene was a proud graduate of Bowie High School Class of 1945, for which she was valedictorian, and continued to meet regularly with fellow Bear alumni until her recent illness. She also had a strong and abiding faith that comforted and strengthened her throughout her life. Irene was a very loving and compassionate person who looked for the best in everyone. She took special joy in her family. Irenealways remembered to recognize the birthday of a family member and greatly enjoyed hearing about everyone’s life. She was overjoyed at the results of the election and would have loved to see the inauguration. She gave generously to many charities and causes.

The family would like to thank the staff at University Medical Center, Nazareth Hall Nursing Center, Las Palmas del Sol, the entire staff at Grandview Home Health, Texas Home Health, Griselda Lemus, Julieta Saenz and Norma Barnes for their care and kindness to Irene. Dueto limitations required by the pandemic, there will be a private viewing and burial service. She will be interred with her husband at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
