Ignacio P. "Nacho" Velasquez passed away on July 28, 2016 at the age of 98. Nacho was born on June 22, 1918 to Ignacio and Florentina Velasquez. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and member of the Catholic Church. Nacho was a World War II veteran. He was part of the ground forces at the Battle of Normandy and witness to the atrocities of the Holocaust. Shortly after returning from war he joined John D. Williams Insurance Co. where he was employed for 39 years until his retirement in 1986. After a brief courtship of just 6 months, he married Guadalupe Anchondo in 1949. They remained together for 65 years of marriage until her death in 2014. Nacho faithfully remained at Lupe's side during her battle with dementia until her passing. Following his retirement, Nacho & Lupe enjoyed many years together, spending time with family, friends and traveling. Nacho was an avid boxing and Dallas Cowboys' fan and got to tour their new stadium just a couple weeks prior to his passing. He most enjoyed watching classic movies with his daughter Anna; boxing matches and football games with his grandson Christopher. He enjoyed reading, read 2 newspapers daily, keeping up with current events and his iPhone. Nacho was a loving husband, devoted father and truly remarkable man who will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his three children: Anna Maria, Jesse (Irma) & Joe. Nacho is also survived by three adoring grandchildren: Christopher, Marianne (Richard Baeza), Kristine and one great-grandchild, Andrew Joseph Baeza, who brought him much happiness since his birth a year ago. Nacho is also survived by his siblings Beatrice Anguiano, Alfred Velasquez (Esther) and Martha V. Limas (Richard, Sr.) and a host of nieces and nephews. Nacho was preceded in death by his siblings Pete Velasquez, Herbert Velasquez and Carmen Edwards. Pallbearers will be Sam Baeza, Sr., Richard Limas, Jr., Alfred Velasquez, Jr., David Montoya, Gilbert Anchondo and Jesus Anchondo. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm at F.D.A. Martin East, with a Vigil at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 11:30am at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Road, with interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. The family wishes to thank his caregiver Soledad Muňoz and his doctors Michael Velasquez and Ka C. Wong along with his physical therapist Pradeep Edupuganti and home health care nurse Gloria Pohan.
