

Henry Chacon 77, passed away early Sunday morning August 14, 2011 in Houston, TX after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on July 1, 1934 in El Paso, TX, he was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a 1953 graduate of Bowie High School. He then enrolled in the U.S. Air Force serving four years active duty and four more as an Air Force reservist. He went on to work in the El Paso Police Department for 29 years. He held several roles within the Department. He worked in the Traffic Division, Accounting and Budget Department, and rose through the ranks from Sergeant to Captain of the Northeast Substation where he ultimately retired. He was President of the El Paso Police Department Association and a member of their softball and basketball teams. He also was a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy. Upon retirement from the Department, he then assumed duties as the Head of Security for the Ysleta Independent School District for 10 years. Later he worked part-time as an estimator for Thermal Control. He was a member of the Bowie Alumni Group and enjoyed attending breakfast meetings with the El Paso Police Department retirees. He loved spending time with friends, family, and especially walking and caring for his “best friend” Stormy, his dog. He also enjoyed reading, watching classic movies, and listening to Frank Sinatra music. Just last year he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife Esperanza. He is survived by his wife Esperanza, daughter Kathleen Chacon, sons Henry Jr. and Leonard Chacon, sisters Julie Lopez and Connie Madrid, son-in-law Daniel Arriaga, sister-in-law Ana Maria Ortega, and his nieces Felicia and Sylvia Ortega. Other survivors include numerous other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Leonard Chacon, Henry Chacon Jr., Daniel Arriaga, Oscar Ortega, Servando M. Blanco, and Henry Ramos. The Chacon Family would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences and well wishes in this time of sorrow. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 from 9:30Am to 11:00AM with Rosary at 11:00Am at Martin Funeral Home West. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 12:30PM at St Patrick Cathedral Church. 1118 N. Mesa. Interment will follow at Ft Bliss National Cemetery , 5200 Fred Wilson.
