Gonzalo J. Gonzalez, better known to family and friends as ‘Chalo’ passed away on May 24 after a long fought battle with illness. He was born in the segundo barrio of El Paso, Texas on January 10, 1940 to Mary and Steve Gonzalez and raised by his grandmother, Isabel. In 1958, he joined the Army, and proudly served for several years until he was honorably discharged in order to return to El Paso and start a family. He will be greatly missed by “el amor de mi vida”, his wife, Amy; his children, Gonzalo (Veronica), Rudy (Jamie), Steve, Horacio (Rosie), Bardo (Victoria), and Carmen; his sisters, Tenchie, Terry, Lola, and Frances; and his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is now reunited with other dearly departed loved ones including his grandmother, mother, father, daughter Yvette, his sister Nelly and brother Ramon. As a handsome and charming man, his kindness, love and influence has touched the lives of so many beyond genealogy; encouraging us all to lead a meaningful life while still enjoying a good glass of wine, some blues music and “a little bit of everything.” He will be whole-heartedly missed.
