Gloria Isabel Arriola Cano passed away peacefully surrounded by her son and loving family on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Austin, Texas. She was 72 years old. Gloria is predeceased by her parents Heriberto and Maria Arriola, brothers Jose Maria Arriola and Ruben Arriola, and sister Cecilia Arriola.
She is survived by her son Francisco Javier Cano, her sisters; Marta E. Gándara (Edmundo Gándara-deceased) , Rosa M. Arriola, Patricia A. Gonzalez (Daniel Gonzalez), Teresa A. Ontiveros (Richard Ontiveros), her dearest brother Heriberto E. Arriola, Jr., and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, whom all loved her very much.
A native El Pasoan for over 70 years, Gloria was born to Heriberto and Maria Arriola on November 19, 1951. She was a wonderful and dedicated mother to the light of her life and only son, Francisco Javier Cano and a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
Gloria graduated from Burges High School in El Paso, Texas. She was a hard-working employee that made her way up the ranks to become a supervisor in the field of manufacturing in electronics. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing bingo, listening to her favorite music, and watching movies (the more Sean Connery, the better). Those who were lucky enough to know her loved her wholeheartedly, especially her mischievous sense of humor, lightheartedness, and ease with which she allowed her laughter to flow. Even during her illnesses and health struggles, she remained positive and grateful in the most difficult of circumstances. She was a fighter till the end and a great inspiration to all who loved her.
The family first and foremost gives thanks and praise to God for His unwavering love and presence throughout Gloria’s life, especially during her health decline. In His infinite mercy, God gave those who loved her the priceless gift of time. Time to pray with and over her, care for her during her illnesses, and show her how much she was loved. Time to share a few more memories, movies, laughs, and meals (a hamburger and diet coke, please). The color light blue, her favorite, will always be a reminder of her precious life. Her devoted son and loving family will carry her memory forever in their hearts.
The health challenges that Gloria faced throughout the last decade were made bearable by the dedicated attention and support from so many. The family humbly wishes to thank the numerous caregivers, nurses, doctors, and staff in El Paso, Texas, and more recently in Austin, that cared for her during her health struggles over the last 10 years. You are angels on earth.
Our hearts overflow with love and deep gratitude for our devoted cousins Roberto and Elvia, our beautiful family, friends and extended family. The countless prayers and support during the challenging years of Gloria’s life have been extraordinary blessings that embody the meaning of God’s grace and love; simply thanking you does not seem near enough for what you have given Gloria, and us all, over the years. We are so very grateful to all.
Rest in peace, dear Gloria.
