Gladys was a pistol! GoodLife Senior Living would say more like a ‘Hurricane’ where she resided for the past 3 years. Prior to that, she would drive around on her scooter like she was Mario Andretti, the race car driver knocking clothes off the racks at Dillard’s and running over anything in her way. It was dangerous to give her independence with her scooter, but she had a blast. It was safer for patrons if we walked in front of her so she would not hit anyone. She ran over our heels on several occasions because she was busy window shopping at Sundland Park Mall & not paying attention. Once she almost drove off the porch at her timeshare in Hollywood, FL and would laugh! Our Dad nicknamed her ‘Thunderbolt’ because when she got mad, you wanted to make sure you were not in harm’s way of any flying objects, but she kept us all in line, including the dogs. Her faith in GOD got her through it all, which was not an easy task with a husband, 4 kids, and 2 dogs.
Gladys was a devoted Christian and sister to Bethel Family Ministries, where she fellowshipped and made lifelong friendships. She was an avid reader and would stay up until midnight to finish the ending. She engaged in politics and valued her conservative Christian beliefs.
Gladys Carol Davis graduated from Austin High School in 1954 and married Richard Roe Pierce on April 20, 1956. She worked at Food Mart as a bookkeeper in her earlier years, then became Business Manager at Radford, School for girls. She then ventured to start her own business, Zion Bookkeeping, and practiced for 35 years. She had a passion for accounting and would go out of her way to help small businesses and their staff set up their bookkeeping. She was an enrolled IRS agent, who earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the IRS and continued to prepare taxes until age 83.
Gladys was born in El Paso, TX to the late Eward O. Davis and Cora C. Davis and preceded in death by her brother Edward O. Davis Jr and spouse, Richard R. Pierce.
Survived by her four children, Cody Pierce & wife, Shannon; Tracie Jarrett; Julie Jordan & husband, Jerry; Richelle Borders & husband, Jeff; Grandchildren, Adam Pierce & wife, Karina.
