Gerald L. “Jerry” Haupt was born March 11, 1925 and passed away on October 24, 2023 at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home in El Paso. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in U.S. Army Air Force which became the U.S. Air Force in 1947. Jerry was in the 401st Bomb Group 8th Air Force as a B-17 bombardier. He was stationed at Deenethorpe, England. Jerry did not talk much of his military service other than to say, “I was lucky to make it home.”
Jerry married Jeanette Surratt in Clint, Texas, on June 19, 1945. After discharged from military service, he and Jeanette returned to Clint where Jerry joined his father-in-law, Paul Surratt, and farmed cotton on the family farm. When the farm was sold, Jerry went into farm equipment sales for International Harvester. He retired in 1995.
Jerry was a member of Bond Memorial Methodist Church in Clint, Texas, and later at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in El Paso. He was a Master Mason and life member of Fabens Masonic Lodge No 1202.
Jerry’s wife, Jeanette, and his younger son, Christopher, his parents Hilmar and Mildred Haupt and his sister, Barbara Zeller preceded him in death. He is survived by his eldest son, Paul and his wife Carole, daughter-in-law, Nancy, and two grandchildren, Kirsta and Jarod. He is also survived by his nephew, David Zeller (Carol) and two grand-nephews, Michael and Jon Zeller.
