George Edward Garcia, 85 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he moved to El Paso, Texas as a young boy. He attended Guardian Angel Elementary School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950. George was a member of the US Airforce and served with distinction in the Korean War. While working at El Paso National Bank, he attended UTEP, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science. George was active in the community throughout his life as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 638, the Lions Club of El Paso, and most recently as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s School. George is preceded in death by his parents John Ellison and Antonia M. Garcia, and brothers John Garcia and Frank Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Garcia; his daughter Georgette Garcia-Kaufmann and husband Daniel; sisters, Josephine Vaughn and Mary Rita Bentley; brother Anthony Garcia; grandson Connor George Kaufmann; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79903. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Seminary, 4601 Hastings Dr. El Paso, Texas 79903. He will be interred at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
