On February 9, 2023, our beloved Mother was embraced by our Lord and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. Mama passed peacefully surrounded by family. Every day was a celebration of life for her. She always saw goodness in everyone and loved unconditionally. She was known for her “Bendiciones”, and everyone sought them before leaving. Family was the center of her life. She taught her children humility, kindness, generosity, and as she would say “take it as a day and put it in God’s hands.” Her life was dedicated to her family. She was a devoted brownie and girl scout leader, sponsored numerous school clubs and activities, was a catechist, and mentor to many young men and women – to name a few. Our Mother was so many things to so many of us.
She was born to Refugio and Julian Lopez on May 12, 1934 in Smeltertown and was the last surviving sibling of ten. She was married to her soulmate, Rodolfo Alva Sr., who preceded her in death. Our Mother leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, devotion to God, the Virgen de Guadalupe, and family. Her legacy is left to her children, Corina Martinez (Jesus), Yolanda Alva-Corella, Irma Delfin (Rafael), and Rodolfo Alva Jr. (Raquel). She had great love and affection for her grandchildren, Benjamin and Vicente Martinez, Carlos, Gabriel, and Victoria Corella, Leonella and Rafael Delfin, and Ezekiel and Elise Alva. And beyond that, Abuelita’s love extended to her great-grandchildren, Joaquin and Reina Martinez, Santiago and Noah Alonzo, and Olivia Delfin Hernandez.
We are extending our deepest gratitude to her caretakers and nurses, Valeria, Rosie, Nora, and Diana. The care, attention, and love they provided to her, is deeply appreciated. The memories we have of our Mother and her optimism for life will always be embedded in our hearts. If Angels walk amongst us, our Mother was surely one of them.
Pallbearers are Rodolfo Alva Jr., Benjamin Martinez, Vicente Martinez, Carlos Corella, Gabriel Corella, and Rafael A. Delfin. Honorary pallbearers are Rafael Delfin, Joaquin Martinez, Ezekiel Alva, Santiago Alonzo, and Noah Alonzo. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm Monday, February 20, 2023 at Martin Funeral Home East (George Dieter) Rosary at 6pm. Celebration of life mass will be held at 8:30am on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 10am.
