She was born in Marfa, Texas on July 11, 1931. She graduated from El Paso School of Vocational Nursing in 1956, and then completed postgraduate coursework at Baylor University School of Nursing in 1958. Emma lived in El Paso for most of her life where she was passionate about her nursing career and raising her daughters, while always being there to help family and friends in time of need. She was also an avid football fan and active member of Santa Lucia Parish Women’s Group. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Antonio Chavez; her four daughters, Delfina Dominguez (Andy), Graciela Phelps (Damon), Rebecca Silva (Michael), and Terry LaFrance (Steven); 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and sister Aurora Campos and brothers Patricio Salinas and Edward Salinas. Her life will be celebrated with services on September 4, 2015 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church at 10am.
