Eddie and I were best friends all our lives. We did the ABC's together, we played basketball together, we played kick the can together, we watched each other's families grow up, we helped each other any way we could. Eddie was a selfless person. I remember many days when the neighborhood kids would gather around Eddie because he was such a nice guy. He never got in fights. He never had any enemies. He was good with his hands. He could work on cars and re-do houses - paint, plumbing, carpet, you name it. He was a hard worker as a truck driver. I remember once him telling me about an ear infection he had one time while driving and his ear had swollen up to twice its size, but his dispatcher said to keep on truckin'. So he did. He was a real soldier. He was really good with his money. The house he bought was just beautiful on the Eastide across the street from the park. We went to elementary, middle and high school at least part of the time together. After he got back from the Navy, he filled my ears with stories of distant ports of call and fun times both abroad and back in San Diego. He really liked San Diego. We were all like brothers - Me, Eddie, Ray Osteika, James Branham, Joe Haywood, Steve Branham and Carl Earley. But the core group was myself, Eddie, Ray and Steve. I'll always love Eddie, Steve and Ray. Eddie never wavered in his friendship. He was my friend on my best and my worst day. He never left my side. I hope to see his wife and children someday soon. I know my parents were at the funeral and it meant a lot to them, too, because our two families were very close. God bless Eddie Osteika, my best man, my brother, my confidant, and my friend. Thanks to God for Mrs. Osteika, Ray, Steven, Sandy and all of the Osteika clan. The one odd thing was that I hadn't spoken to Eddie in years and suddenly I called him out of the blue and then a few days later - poof - he's gone. I believe in my heart that last call was arranged by God, and I am so happy I got to relive the good old days one last time with Eddie. He's still with me in my heart, so I'm strong because of that. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked right next to Ed on the USS Acadia. He was a very good friend while on the ship. He showed me the ropes when I got on board and took me under his wing. I am very grateful for him being there. God bless.

Eddie,my dear beloved brother I still yearn to hear your voice as we talked numerous times daily.I still cry at night as I reach for the phone to call you.I miss you so much,look down on me and guide me as you always did.I'll see you soon enough and do my best to carry out our dreams.Love you.We are all watching over your family so you can rest in peace.Bye for now.

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during the Persian Gulf War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Carol my friend.  We are in deep mourning as our friend, your husband has left us too soon.  He was always wonderful to us and everytime I close my eyes I see him with a smile.  He always had one.  Ed was one of a kind and will always be missed.  We're here for you Carol. We Love you.  RIP Ed.
