Dora Pauline Messer, age 101, joined her heavenly father Wednesday, December 6, 2012. Born April 12, 1911 in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania of Italian immigrant parents, she was the youngest of five siblings. Her parents Antonio and Eugenia Cimino, brothers Eugene, Dominic, and Joseph and sister Felicia all predeceased her. In 1936, she married Albert C. Messer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved with their young family to El Paso in 1948 when her husband accepted a position with the El Paso Independent School District. They were happily married until her husband’s passing in 1976,
During her lifetime, Dora was active in her church where she served as President of the Altar Society for Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, taught catechism for many years, owned her own beauty shop, and made many crafts for local charities.
She loved her family and is survived by her children: Joseph Messer (Lupe), Eugenia Scott (Fred), Albert Messer (Sandy). Her grandchildren: Joe David, Erik, and Erika Messer; Tracie Petty, Paul and Mark Scott, AJ and Alexa Messer. Her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers. Her great grandchildren include; Joshua Michael, Sydney and Derik Messer; Kristina Cuevas and Naythan Sauceda, Reece and Claire Harper.
Friends are invited to celebrate Dora’s life from 5pm to 9pm with a Rosary to be held at 7 pm Wednesday, December 12, at Martin Funeral Home at 3839 Montana; a Mass will be held at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar Drive, at 9:30 am on Thursday, December 13; burial to follow at Restlawn Cemetery at 4848 Alps. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the El Paso Alzheimer’s Association at 4687 N Mesa, El Paso, Texas 79912.
