He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susie, parents Guadalupe and Donaciano Melendez, and infant son, Michael. He is survived by his children Don (Norma), Susan (Stephen Meador), Mary (Tim Ingram), Cecilia, Vivian (Don Dillon), Martin, Matthew (Yvette); grandchildren: Joshua, Paige, Stephen Lane, Siena, Kimberly, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Samantha, Delaney, Makenzie and Evan.
After graduating from Bowie High School, Don married his high school sweetheart, Susie Nevarez, and together they attended the University of Texas in Austin to study pharmacy. After Don graduated from pharmacy school in 1956, he and Susie returned to El Paso. Don was known for his bigger than life personality, his humor, his smile, his non-stop wit, and his compassion for all, especially, his patients and colleagues.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Funeraria del Angel Central(Martin Funeral Home) 3839 Montana Ave. Graveside Services at 9:30am, Saturday, May 7th at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza.
