Dolores Sanchez

1945-2021

We are here this day to celebrate the life of Dolores Sanchez. Dolores left this earth to join her parents,

• Julian and Julie Ramirez,

• along with her sister Ana Maria Ramirez and

• brother, John Manuel Ramirez.

Dolores is survived by her children

• son Gary Sanchez and

• and daughter Hilda Lee Sanchez;

• her sister Estella Ramirez,

• brother Oscar Ramirez, his wife Ignacita Ramirez;

• three grandchildren Alejandro,

• Francisco and

• Luis Sanchez,

• niece Rhonda Ramirez,

• nephew Russel Ramirez, his wife Elora and son Jubal and

• Austin Armendariz. Other relatives include Sandra Rios,

• Terry Sosa,

• Olivia Lopez and

• Mario Sosa,

• Uncle Thomas Hernandez and

• Francisco Hernandez, and many other relatives.

Dolores was a sports enthusiast. She played basketball when a student at Clint High School. She became a Miner’s fan as well. Weekends were spent watching one game and then going to the next game. When her nephew Austin Armendariz played football at Eastwood High School, Dolores and Estella were in the stands rooting him on.

Dolores graduated from Ysleta High School in 1964 and enrolled in International Business College. She held other jobs to include Carries Camp in Cloudcroft at the age of 13, Farah Manufacturing, and Johnston Clinic. She used her skills and became a school secretary and budget and payroll clerk at Ysleta ISD Capistrano Elementary School. She worked at the school for 33 years from 1977 – 2010. Dolores was appreciated by all her principals because she was no nonsense person, followed procedures, and always dotted her i’s and crossed her t’s.

She made friends of most faculty and staff. She had a great memory and knew all the children at Capistrano as well as their parents. She actually worked with two generations of children and parents during her tenure at the school.

Because of her exceptional talents at the school, many people from Capistrano and the school district felt very blessed by knowing Dolores. Principals appreciated her quality work and attention to detail.

I will not forget I was called to the school when I was a district curriculum specialist working with new teachers to the district to help a new teacher with some classroom discipline issues. I went to the classroom and made suggestions and did a few demonstrations to assist the new teacher. At one point I went into the classroom and the new teacher was a little teary and I asked if there was a problem. She confided in me that as a new teacher, she had not managed some of her personal funds well that month and she was very upset. She said Ms. Sanchez had overheard her talking on the phone about her dilemma. She asked her to please stop by her desk when she had a moment. Do know Dolores could have a low growl if she needed to get someone’s attention or if someone was out of line, but she really had no bite – a heart of gold. She pulled her purse from under the desk, dug around in her purse, and put some cash in the teacher’s hand. She told the teacher to keep the story to herself and gave her a smile as she squeezed her hand. This is the Dolores many of us knew and loved.

Dolores, you will not be forgotten by so many. May you move on with your journey and rest in peace.

A visitation for Dolores will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A vigil will occur Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 6:00 PM, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N Clark Dr., El Paso, Texas 79905. A graveside will occur Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Mt Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas 79907.
