Our dear mother, Dolores Briones de Baca – better known as “Ita” to those who loved her - was re-united with her dancing partner, Ito, on Monday the 26th of March. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on Oct 31, 1921 and married her life-long love, Hector Baca in 1941. They shared 48 wonderful years until he was called to the Lord in 1989. They brought 5 children to this world: Hector, Margarita (dec), Martha, Raul, and Raymundo. They and their spouses: Anna Baca, Marlin Moore, Juan Erives (dec), and Susana Aguilar Baca give thanks for having such a strong and caring mother, who was the glue that held the family together.
Having grown up during the Great Depression, she taught us the value of thrift and planning. She joined Hector - after he had proudly served in the US Navy in WW2- in their greatest adventure of emigrating to the United States in 1946. They made it possible for all their progeny to be proud Americans. Their 15 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, and 12 Great-Great grandchildren share a legacy of love and always trying to see the bright side of life as Ita taught by her ever calm and cheerful demeanor. Ita was always willing to help not just her children, but her many siblings, nieces, nephews, as well as countless grand nieces/nephews. Once their kids left home, Ita and Ito embarked on the new adventure of Mexican Folkloric Dancing which became her late in life passion. She continued dancing until her health no longer allowed her foot stomping twirls and spins.
She has now finally been reunited with her daughter Margie who went to meet Ito in 2005. Today, we know that Margie is clapping her hands as she cheers Ita and Ito dancing once again to the tune of: “La Negra” or “Las Perlitas” -
Dance on Ita! You have earned your place in paradise!
