David Gutierrez (November 09, 1961 – June 10, 2023) was a loving husband and father. The son of Juan and Socorro Gutierrez, he was the second of four. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, he was the younger brother of Juan Gutierrez, Jr., and older brother of Henry Gutierrez and Armando Gutierrez.
David graduated from Eastwood High School in 1979. He would go on to earn his Bachelor of Science from New Mexico State University in 1985, majoring in electrical engineering. David worked at Arizona Public Service (APS) in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1985 until being laid off in 1989. From there he would move on to work at the El Paso Electric Company from 1989 until 2019, completing 30 years of service with the company.
On March 21, 1992, David married the love of his life, Leticia Gutierrez. They would go on to have three children: Rebecca Marie Gutierrez (b. 1995), David Anthony Gutierrez (b. 1997), and Christopher John Gutierrez (b. 2000). After Christopher’s birth, David and Letty moved into a new home in El Paso in 2003, where they would live and raise their children until 2017, when they moved again. During that time, he provided for his family and supported his kids’ various extracurricular activities, including reciting Bible verses from memory, spelling, dance, orchestra, and golf.
In 2017, David suffered a seizure while at work. While the cause of the seizure was unknown at the time, it was not until 2019 when he would be diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) by the Mayo Clinic, which began causing changes in his behavior and personality. Later, it would cause him to lose his motor functions, ability to walk, and ability to talk. On June 10, 2023, surrounded by family, he breathed his last.
David is survived by his wife, Leticia Gutierrez, his three children, Rebecca Marie Rubbo, David Anthony Gutierrez, and Christopher John Gutierrez; mother, Socorro Gutierrez, and three brothers, Juan Gutierrez, Jr., Henry Gutierrez, and Armando Gutierrez
