David Charles Chavez passed away September 12, 2010. He was 63. A lifelong resident of El Paso and The Upper Valley, he was always active in the community and a volunteer on many local boards, committees and task forces. He was also a Mason. He earned a Master’s degree in Education and was a retired School Administrator and Educator with the EPISD. He taught Tae Kwon Do for many years at the YMCA as well as El Paso Community College. He was also a retired U.S. customs agent as was his father Tomas V. Chavez who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his mother Connie S. Chavez, to whom he was a devoted son. Also preceding him in death were his brothers Robert F. Chavez, Louis Chavez and sister Eloisa Barni. David is survived by his brother Tom Chavez and sister Lucianita Baca. He is also survived by his Mother-In-Law Hazelle Weidmann and his lifelong friend Ellen W. Chavez. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Elisa Chavez Luna and his son-in-law Jaime. He adored and was adored by his twin granddaughters Marissa and Marcela. The magnitude of this loss in their lives cannot be measured. David loved people and he was loved by many people. He easily shared a smile and a laugh with his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will all sorely miss him. May his family and friends who truly loved him continue to share with one another their happiest and funniest stories of him and his unique strength and sweetness so that he may continue to live through us all. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset, officiated by Fr. David Fierro. Readers: Earl Sanchez, Luis I. Sanchez, Alicia Sun. Active Pallbearers will be Ed Chavez, Jason Chavez, Jose Luis Vasquez, Ernesto Vasquez, Michael Sanchez and Luis R. Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Rivera, Bernie Sanchez, Rogelio Vasquez and Ruben Batista. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley, Santa Teresa New Mexico.
