Daniel “Danny” Romero passed away peacefully, at the age of 73, on February 11, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, following a lengthy illness. He was born on November 17, 1950 in El Paso, Texas to Leopoldo “Leo” J. Romero and Rose Elisa Romero.
He was born, raised and retired in El Paso, Texas until he began to seek treatment for pancreatic cancer in San Antonio, Texas alongside his two daughters Cindy and Christy. Danny joined the Navy in 1970. Spent most of his career being an automotive mechanic. By listening to your vehicle he could tell you exactly what the issue could be…he was always right! He worked alongside his best friend “his father Leo” at Chevron and later helped open and run Leo’s Garage since the early 80s. During the late 70’s and early 80’s Danny took up Karate which earned him many accolades to the 3rd degree black belt. Danny was a self-taught musician playing the guitar and drums. Making music with friends and family was one of his many passions. Danny had many special talents one of which included joke telling, many times he could sound so believable you would fall for the joke. Danny had a love for racing cars, any type of racing car to be exact.
He is preceded in death by his father Leopoldo “Leo”, in 1994. He remains dearly loved by his children Cindy Snyder and her husband Randy, Christy Hughes, Cecilia Amaya and Daniel Romero. His grandchildren Allison, Alexander and Andrew Hughes. His great granddaughter Isabella Sanchez. His mother Rose Elisa Romero, brothers Leo and Edward Romero, sisters Patricia her husband Jim Waddle and Susan Lucas. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Those who were fortunate enough to know Danny will remember his many gifts, his generosity of spirit, his caring friendship, steadiness, wisdom, easy humor and support.
The family would like to thank Dr. Manuel Santiago at Texas Oncology and Vitas Hospice in San Antonio, Texas for the wonderful care they assisted with his cancer journey and in his final days.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm with the rosary at 6:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina, El Paso, Texas 79915. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:30 am at San Antonio de Padua Church, 503 Hunter Dr. El Paso, Texas 79915 followed by the interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1:00pm.
