Daniel Montoya, age 69, passed away on August 11, in El Paso, TX. Born February 13, 1949, he attended Bel Air High School and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon moving to Austin, he graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He would later work as an accountant, owning his own business - and actively serving in the Greater Southwest Optimist Club in various capacities, including President. He had a great love for music - having played bass in various bands in the El Paso area; and classic cars, including his prized IROC Z-28. His greatest love, however, was for his family, both immediate and extended - for whom he cared dearly, and who brought him great joy and pride. As a father, he made it a priority to be present in all aspects of his children’s lives; from coaching their little league teams, to nurturing their own passion for music, and attending all of their musical performances. His love and guidance have left a legacy that his children will carry in their own families. He is survived by his two sons, Daniel Jr. (Jennifer) and Martin (Risa), granddaughter Mara, and siblings, Humberto Jr. (Maria Guadalupe), Martin (Vera), Elsa Mariscal (Robert), and Carlos (Adrienne). Daniel leaves behind Maria, ex-wife and mother of his sons, who was in constant contact w/him until his passing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Humberto and Gloria Montoya. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 Zaragoza Rd. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 17 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills Drive, with burial services to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Funeral Services entrusted to Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 N. Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas, 79936, www.crestviewfuneralhome.com
