Christopher McGill, born June 20, 1958, was pronounced dead of pancreatic cancer on August 29, 2012. His beloved little brother Paul McGill was pronounced dead of colon cancer in 2008. Chris did not die but leaves many people missing him, including daughter Megan, wife Christa Beth, mother and father Julia and Alfred McGill, and brother Frank McGill.
Chris affected countless lives and began his service to the world as a United States Marine. He joined the El Paso Police Department working in patrol and later as the best crime scene officer the department ever had. He became involved in the police labor movement, serving for years on the board of the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association and then as President of the Association. Before his retirement from the police department, Chris served as President of the largest law enforcement union in Texas, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas. After his retirement, Chris worked as a field representative for CLEAT. Up until two weeks before he was pronounced dead, Chris traveled throughout Texas and worked tirelessly to negotiate the best employment contracts possible for the officers and employees he represented. Chris had an extremely strong work ethic but then again did nothing in moderation, including love and friendship. His penchant for language and gift of gab are legendary and now lack thereof leaves this world a much quieter place. What he hated the most about his cancer was that it took his voice. We hate that too.
The family would like to thank all the friends and colleagues who helped him fight this insidious disease, particularly “brother” and “ life-long partner” Assistant Police Chief Robert Feidner, “son” CLEAT President Todd Harrison, and compadre EPCSOA President Jose Marrufo. We all know that cancer took his body, but he went someplace else where he needed to help somebody else. Buddy, we’ll find you. Family and friends are to meet on Friday, September 7, 2012. 1:15 pm at Martin Funeral Home 3839 Montana Ave, with motorcade to Fort Bliss National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EPMPOA Hall 3601 Rutherglen St, El Paso, Texas, 79925. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Officers Memorial Foundation, 400 West 14th Street, Suite 200, Austin, Texas 78701.
