Cathy Ann (Crossman) Saiz joined our Lord and Savior on June 27th, 2023 surrounded by her loving husband and two sons. Cathy’s battle against breast cancer was nothing short of heroic before our Lord called her home.
Born in the town of Malone, New York on the Canadian border in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains to Gordon and Jayne (Elliott) Crossman on May 28, 1971, Cathy grew up enjoying skiing, swimming, ski-dooing (snowmobiling), spending time at Camp on Lake Titus and especially being with her family and friends.
As a member of The Malone Starliter Majorette and Drum Corp she traveled and performed in competitions from Washington DC to areas throughout Northeastern Canada. Cathy’s teaching career began as a lifeguard where she taught many local area children how to swim.
In 1989, Cathy graduated from Franklin Academy and continued her education earning a BS from Lemoyne College in Syracuse, NY then her Master’s degree in education and special education from The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. Teaching and providing a good education to all children was a passion Cathy believed in with her whole heart. She touched the lives of countless children and families as an educator and advocate, particularly for those at greatest risk and in greatest need. Cathy taught in the Albany area then moved back to her hometown and taught at The Malone Middle School where her father taught for many years before her.
In 2004, on her birthday, Cathy met Joe while he was working on assignment in Upstate New York. They married two years later, on July 15th, 2006 and relocated to Joe’s hometown of El Paso where Cathy continued her career as an educator for the El Paso and Ysleta Independent School Districts beginning at Irvin High School, Valley View Middle and Riverside Middle to name a few.
In 2009 Cathy and Joe welcomed their first child, Alejandro, followed by Adam in 2010. Cathy’s children and husband were the light and joy of her life. She loved nothing more than spending time together whether it be traveling, watching movies, doing homework, as long as they were all together. Nothing gave her greater pride than watching her children participate in school and extracurricular functions and having fun.
Cathy’s survived by her husband Jose Saiz, sons Alejandro Saiz, Adam Saiz, and daughter Joevonnie Saiz. Her father Gordon Crossman, sister Christine (George) Crossman-Dumas, niece Emma Jayne Dumas, nephew Evan Dumas, mother-in-law Gloria Martinez, sister-in-law Erica Bradfield, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is predeceased by her mother, Jayne (Elliott) Crossman and father-in-law Miguel Martinez.
Cathy’s strength, compassion, empathy, and love will be remembered by everyone that knew her and lives on through her children.
