On September 17, 2023, Carol received her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was 73 years young. Born November 8, 1949, at Fort Dix, New Jersey to Fred and Dorothy Smith. Carol is survived by her son Stephen Rodriguez and wife Lucy, daughter Tiffany Dean Heras and husband Gerardo (Kelly), brother Donald Smith and wife Nancy. 6 grandchildren, Randall Rodriguez and wife Anilu, Robin Rodriguez, Taylor and Austin Heras, Victoria and Ryan Rodriguez. 2 Great-Grandchildren Logann and Liam Rodriguez. Bubba and Bailey, her puppy dogs, who were always dear to her heart.
Carol is preceded in death by her father Fred Smith, mother Dorothy, and brother Bob. She is now walking on the beach with them, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, or watching a Boston Red Sox baseball game.
Carol graduated from Irvin High School in 1967. Even though it was more than 50 years ago that she graduated, her Irvin roots remained strong. She would gather and have lunch with some of her high school friends known as the Irvin Lunch Bunch.
Early in her life, she fell in love with bowling. She bowled on her high school bowling team and was a state champion. After graduation, she competed for a spot on the Olympic bowling team but fell short. She loved watching sports, especially when her grandchildren played. Whether it was watching Randy wrestling for his high school state championship, Robin playing basketball, Taylor playing volleyball or softball, Austin playing baseball or football, Victoria dancing in the Nutcracker, and Ryan’s Taekwondo or wrestling matches. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved them “To the Moon and Back.”
She had many favorite sports teams. She loved the Dallas Cowboys but was only allowed to watch them on the TV as she repeatedly stated, every time she went to watch them in person, they lost. She loved the Boston Red Sox. Her favorite baseball memories were going to see a Red Sox game with her brother Bob and seeing one of Derek Jeter’s games during his farewell season with her granddaughter Robin.
Carol traveled to many places throughout the years. Hawaii, Germany, Maine, Canada, Puerto Rico, but one of her most memorable times, was traveling with her brother Don to Biloxi, Mississippi to visit their brother Bob. She talked about walking on the beach and how peaceful the ocean was.
A limb has fallen from our tree, but we will always remember the best times, her love, laughter, support, and her smile. Her mind is at ease and her soul is at rest as we remember how we were truly blessed to have her in our lives. We will continue traditions and go on with our lives, but we will miss her every day until the day comes that we are together again.
Her favorite scripture and which she read daily was, God is my strength and power and He makes my way perfect. 2 Samuel 22:33
