From a young age, he was known for his lighthearted attitude and wittiness, always hoping to fill each room he was in with joy and laughter. A natural and confident conversationalist, he used this skill during his career as an industrial parts salesman to connect with people throughout Latin America. If Carlos wasn’t moving those around him with his positive presence, it was the combination of sweet sounds he mixed together to get the crowd dancing as a DJ during his early 20’s for multiple parties throughout Juarez, Mexico and El Paso. His charisma, charm, and smooth grooves later won over the heart of his wife, Angelina Rodriguez, in 1988 when they met at Mr. J’s dance club in Orange, California.
Following nine months of dating, Carlos and Angelina were engaged and later married in November 1989, committing to build a household together with God as the foundation. Aside from being a loving husband, one of his most cherish roles was that of a father. They welcomed two healthy and beautiful children into this world, Rebecca and Paul in October 1990 and February 1992, respectively. He worked hard to make sure his family had a life filled with adventure, opportunity, and love. In the eyes of his children, he possessed superhuman abilities and was a fearless, protective papa bear of his cubs. On one instance he pushed a stalled vehicle on his own to the nearest gas station during a torrential rainfall while his toddler daughter sat inside, and during another instance, chased down a teenage neighborhood bully on foot, outrunning the bully’s bike, in defense of his young son.
A skillful athlete growing up, his favorite pastime was playing various games on the streets and parks of El Paso and Juarez, with his many cousins and friends. He shared this passion for sports with his children. A few of their fondest memories include midnight couch surfing during the Japan-South Korea World Cup of 2002, Friday nights as a family at the nearby tennis and basketball courts, and cheering him on when he won the award for “Most Christ-like Coach” of their youth soccer league.
He ran the race God set before him with humility, courage, and faith, and on August 16, 2022 our beloved Carlos finally reached the finish line through those magnificent gates of his eternal home. We know his radiant smile and legacy carry on in the photos and videos captured throughout the years, and most importantly in the hearts of his family and friends. He is now rejoicing in heaven with legends of the music industry, and gracing the angels with his Music Mondays.
