Carlos Antonio Lerma Jr, 15, was the first-born son of Carlos and Veronica Lerma. It was a bright and sunny day, April 5th 2006 at about 12:30 p.m. in El Paso, TX when his first cry was heard. Being a first-born nephew, grandson, and cousin to some of us, he quickly won the heart of everyone that met him. At the age of 4 his biggest wish to become a brother was granted; as a brother, Carlos was compassionate, attentive, and caring to Cristian. Carlos attended Santa Teresa Elementary, which during this time he also found his new and one true love for basketball. He joined multiple leagues, such as Park Boyz, D1, EP Ballers, Titans, Pride, and Express.
In 2019, he officially became an Eagle as he started Canutillo Middle School followed by his freshman and sophomore year in Canutillo High School. Carlos was very dedicated to basketball, he practiced and pushed himself to be ahead of his age level while playing. He looked at videos, practiced with older kids, and even played in his backyard until his mom would say “Enough, it’s time for bed”.
Carlos was not just a basketball player, he also enjoyed playing video games, learn how to skateboard. Under the guidance of this dad, he learned how to weld, build things from scratch with him, along with doing vehicle maintenance for the “Hummer”. They both enjoyed NASCAR, and probably his best response to his dad when he missed a part of the race was “There was like 2 left turns you missed!” They both sat together and watched the same movies over and over like it was their first time. He learned how to drive with his mom, cook and even dance. He would joke with her so much daily, and Vero was his number one fan when he was in the court. Carlos will be remembered as the funny, witty, sarcastic, and persistent human being that he was. So many memories will last a lifetime for his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins of his. We know his many friends will also help keep his memory alive.
A Visitation will be held for Carlos on Monday October 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Rd. El Paso, TX 79912. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday October 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Matthew Catholic Church followed by the Interment at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Carlos, in no way is this easy for any of us, this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later Burrito #18.
