Carlos Escobar was a devoted family man, lifelong Catholic and El Pasoan. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Carlos’s life mirrored his easy-going, positive and compassionate nature. He always reached out to help others in need, be it with time, charity, work, consoling words or a good joke; his conscience sought to look after others.
Carlos could and did like to have some fun. Carlos and his wife, Vangie, family, friends and colleagues know of the countless get-togethers full of laughter, adventure and good times. He and Vangie enjoyed traveling to many places. They went to Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia and Egypt. Yet, their first love was the national and state parks, including the Grand Canyon, Glacier, Zion, Canyonlands, Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Denali and Shenandoah. Traveling by all modes of transportation, they crisscrossed the U.S. with joy. Carlos also enjoyed attending championship boxing events with some of his closest family members in Las Vegas.
Carlos practiced law for 56 years and was a businessman. The numerous friends, employees and colleagues that the family would have loved to have joined us during this time is, unfortunately, not possible. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no funeral Mass, wake or rosary. His burial will be at Memory Gardens in Sunland Park, and given that New Mexico has an outstanding order prohibiting gatherings over 10 people, the gravesite service will be open only to immediate family.
Carlos is preceded by his father and mother, Carlos and Maria Escobar; his sister, Nan Strons; his brother, Pablo Escobar; his nephew, Mark Rasor; and his niece, Christina Alarcon.
Carlos is survived by his wife, Vangie; his children: Carlos Jr. (Judy), Becky (Joe) and Esther Escobar; and his grandchildren: Carlos III, Michael and Sarah Escobar. He is also survived by his brothers: Arturo, Juan Manuel, Hector and David Escobar; his sisters: Hilda Rasor and Sukie Alarcon; his aunt, Rosa Avalos; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
