Carlos attended Crockett Elementary School, and then went on to graduate from Austin High School in 1959. He then attended and graduated from Texas Western College with a degree in Civil Engineering. Carlos earned a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from UTEP later in life. After graduating from TWC, Carlos went on to serve honorably in the US Army as a combat engineer with a rank of 1st Lt. and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. After serving his commitment in the military, Carlos returned home and married the love of his life, Aurora. They moved to Los Angeles, California but soon returned home to their beloved El Paso to raise a family.
Carlos was hired by the Texas Highway Department (TxDOT) as a civil engineer. He was project engineer on several prominent infrastructure projects in El Paso. These include: the three level (the overpass by the zoo on Paisano), US 54 from Diana to the state line including all the overpasses on that stretch, the Yarbrough bridge, the Yarbrough extension fromI-10 to North Loop, the Fonseca bridge, the bridge over the railroad tracks on Raynolds and many repairs on different stretches of I-10. He was also an assistant project engineer the four level (Spaghetti Bowl). Eventually Carlos was promoted to Director of Transportation Planning and Design. After 30 years he retired from TxDOT.
Carlos loved music and enjoyed dancing. He was a good athlete and excelled in tennis and softball. He coached little league baseball for several years. He was an avid New York Yankee, Dallas Cowboy, and UTEP Miner fan. Carlos was a dog lover and was a pet parent to many including several Chow Chows.
Carlos was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Aurora E. Dominguez and his parents Virgilio and Maria Dominguez. Carlos is survived by his sons Carlos V. Dominguez, Jr., and Jaime M. Dominguez. He is also survived by his siblings Carolina D. Cruz and Maria D. Acosta (Fernando), and brother-in-law Manuel Moreno (Catarina) and nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Carlos will be held Monday, September 27, from 5:00 PM to 9:00PM at Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79903, with Vigil at 7:00PM. Funeral Mass will be 9:00AM Tuesday, September 28, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79905. Committal service to follow at 10:30AM at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
