Carlos was born in El Paso, Texas, January 10, 1986. He attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Coronado High School in 2004. He was attending Stony Brook University majoring in English Language Arts.
Carlos was a beloved son, brother, husband, grandson, cousin, nephew, uncle, and friend. Carlos was fiercely protective and unwaveringly loyal to those he loved. He was never afraid to love and gave his heart willingly and completely. His loyalty was a gift to be treasured, and the world is a lesser place without him. He was a truly intelligent man, our own personal encyclopedia of information. Anything you wanted to know, he probably knew or would search until he found the answer. No goal was too high, no star out of reach. His beautiful smile could brighten any dark day, and his words of kindness and love restored your faith in the good found in others. He believed in you, and gave you the confidence to believe in yourself. His courageous and adventurous spirit has taken him on an unanticipated journey, and we are at peace with the knowledge we will join him there one day.
Carlos is survived by his parents Robert and Patricia (Diaz) Rice; father, Arturo De La Torre; sisters, Clarissa and Christina; the love of his life, April Cattell; maternal grandparents, Jorge M. Diaz and Irma U. Diaz; paternal grandmother, Maria Luisa De La Torre; niece, Sienna, and nephew, Albert, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
