Byrd Marie Niehaus passed into the life eternal on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the age of 94. She and her husband, C. Douglas Niehaus, came to El Paso in 1947 and she has lived out her life. She loved El Paso and she loved her beautiful Franklin Mountains. Byrd was a home maker and mother of two sons. She was an active member of Trinity-First United Methodist Church for 65 years where she was a part of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday school class, United Methodist Women and held various leadership positions in the church. She was also a member of the Manhattan Garden Club, the Women’s Club of El Paso and Chapter BP of the PEO sisterhood. She loved to garden and roses were her favorite. She also enjoyed volunteering at Houchen Community Center which is a United Methodist mission outreach in South El Paso. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband C. Douglas Niehaus and her three brothers, Joe Max Howard, J.L. Howard and Wayne Howard. Surviving are a son, Robert Lee Niehaus of Lubbock, TX and his wife Mary Beth; son Rev. Keith D. Niehaus from Farwell, TX and his wife Kristine; three granddaughters, Mary Linn Hall of Romeo MI, Sharibeth Niehaus of Lubbock, TX and Kimberly Castanuela of Frisco, TX; three grandsons, Robert Douglas Niehaus of Lubbock, TX, Michael Niehaus of Jemez Springs, NM, and Mark Niehaus of South Jordan, UT; one sister-in-law Aural Niehaus of Ponca City, OK. Byrd had six great-grandchildren with one more on the way.Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home West on Thursday, October 20th from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Trinity-First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX on Friday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Schwarting and Rev. Keith Niehaus officiating. Interment will be at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
